I live on my own in a great downtown apartment. I'm single, which means all the bills fall into my lap and no one else. I'll be honest; I don't make a lot of money. Enough to live, have a bit of fun, and save a tiny portion, but that's about it. So it's incredible important for me to budget and stick to that budget so I don't fall in to debt.
Currently I have no debt what-so-ever. It's a wonderful feeling being debt free and I plan to stay that way for as long as I can. I know eventually I will be in debt again, when I purchase my first home, hopefully within the next five years. But that's good debt, debt I don't mind carrying. It's consumer debt that I'm trying to stay away from.
I have a very strong love for fashion, so strong I even studied Fashion Merchandising in college. I could spend hours wandering through clothing shops, creating outfits. I could also spend hundreds of dollars on those outfits (very easily actually). While my closet loves when I come home with bags and bags of new purchases, my bank account feels differently.
Now is the time to find a nice balance. I'll never be able to give up buying clothes, my love for fashion would never allow for that, but I do want to be conscious of what I'm buying and save for the things on my wish list. I know it's possible, but I also know it probably won't be easy. Hopefully journaling will help.
I wrote I wasn’t in debt, which is true but the flip side is that I can’t
seem to grow my savings. I try but then I go on a whopping shopping spree and
pull money from the savings to cover it. I don’t want to do that anymore. I
want to see my savings grow.
